- What is Permanent Makeup?
Also known as Permanent Cosmetics, Cosmetic Tattooing or Micropigmentation, is the art of implanting special pigments that are formulated from color additives approved for food, drugs and cosmetics use, in the second layer of the skin, the dermis. Using tattooing techniques in concert with different tattoo devices. When done in natural tones, you can apply over them any regular makeup to change your look!
- How to pick up an adequate technician to do my Permanent Cosmetics?
As with any medical or cosmetic procedure your best option is to select a National Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional from any of the National Organizations, and follows their Code of Ethics, State Health Regulations and stays updated with the continued education offered yearly by them. They must be licensed and insured and able to show these credentials upon request.
- How long does it last?
Permanent Cosmetics is a multi-step process of building layers of pigments . The first time most people will need at least two (2) sessions. Ideally performed 4-12 weeks apart from each other to perfect color and shape or fill in any pigment lost during the healing progress if necessary, for your complete satisfaction.
The longevity of your procedures will depend in personal characteristics such as life style, skin type, health conditions, medications you are taking and the adherence to the short and long AFTER CARE instruction. As with any thing exposed to the ultraviolet radiation types A or B of the sun and environmental damages, pigments fade over time to a softer shade of the color applied. I see my clients any where from 1-3 years for evaluation and if necessary, to perform a “Refreshment or Buster Touch Up” to keep their investment looking its best, at half of the price that the original procedure was charged.
- Does it hurt?
Pain sensation is very subjective and different for every person. During the whole process I use topical anesthetics to reduce any discomfort. Most people describe the sensation as the “tweezing hairs or tickling on the skin”. Most evaluate the sensation from the scale of 1-10 less that 4. Clients also have the option of local anesthesia, administered by our MD.
- Who Benefits from Permanent Makeup?
Women or men. Clients over the age of 18 who are not pregnant or nursing are good candidates based on a Health Profile. Permanent makeup is a good personal, long lasting investment from those who :
Are experiencing signs of normal aging as thinning or dissapearance of hairs in eyebrows or eyelashes, loosing definition and thickness of Lips. The corner of eyebrows, eyelids and lips are “drooping”.
Have any medical or visual condition that interferes with the application of regular makeup.
Work or play sports and do not want tha bother of running, smearing makeup.
Just want to look younger/ refreshed all day, without or even after any plastic surgery procedure
- What to expect after the procedure?
You will experience some degree of swelling and inflammation that will subside in a few days.
Pigment will look bolder and thicker during the healing process (5-10 days). After, may fade up to 30%, more for lip procedures; as you are going to see the pigments throughout a renewed epidermal layer with not pigments on it. Proper implanted pigments are deposited in the dermis (second skin layer).
As you heal a soft crust may appear and will fall by itself in 3-7 days. Do not pick as it may result in lost of pigment that can be replaced at the Touch Up or second visit.
